About our Degree

The MBIOT degree is a Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degree. These innovative degrees prepare graduates for science careers in business, government and the non-profit sector, and emphasize advanced scientific knowledge and professional skills such as communication, project development, and commercialization.

Our Biotechnology Industry Advisory Council provides further guidance to ensure our curriculum is responsive to industry needs and works to increase career opportunities for our graduates and the visibility of the program.

An outstanding feature of our program is the completion of an industry internship and the production of a Professional Portfolio, in which the student reflects on skills and competencies obtained through course work, informal learning experiences, and their internship. Students give a public presentation of their internship experience followed by a final oral exam of the portfolio by their faculty committee. Our program also stresses leadership and service in extra-curricular activities appropriate to the field.
